Australia 2010

A circumnavigation (with risks).

Hervey Bay.

Once you are south of Bundaberg there are lots of expensive and elaborate Holiday Villages/Resorts/Caravan Parks on the east coast of Australia.

But if all you want is somewhere to park right next to the sea then the Torquay Beachfront Caravan Park in Hervey Bay is hard to beat. (S25.28372 E152.87416). No swimming pool, no TV room and no happy hour. But the sea is only five metres from your vehicle and when we were there, there were very few other people on the beach.

As a bonus there is Paolo's Pizza Bar just opposite the camp site, easily the best pizza place we found in Australia. (Recommended)

The other good thing to do in Hervey Bay is to go whale watching. We did and saw dozens of Humpback whales including two breaches reasonably close to the boat.
