Wild Camping and Costs

In Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador it was relatively easy to wild camp and we got used to good campsite charges ranging from $Can 15.00 to $Can 30.00 (£10.00 UKP to £20.00 UKP) per night. By the time we reached Quebec we had wild camped for about 50% of the time.

Whilst we visited the major cities of Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto we resigned ourselves to expensive campsites. However now we are back in small town Ontario it is disappointing to find lots of No Camping signs and even poor campsites charging $Can 38.00 for a small pitch with no facilities.

One of the most disappointing camp sites we have stayed at so far was Providence Bay Tent & Trailer Park on Manitoulin Island. Their entry in Woodall's (the campground bible) suggested that they had large pitches and charged $Can 29.00. When we got there they charged $Can 39.00 for a pitch with no facilities plus an outrageous additional $Can 7.00 to use their dump facilities!

Not recommended.
