My Campervan

Stephen Stewart's Bimobil EX480

My current campervan is a 2005 MAN Bimobil EX480 that I acquired in Germany in June 2008. Known rather unimaginatively as Man.

As well as being robust, with good ground clearance, and of course four wheel drive Man has an unusual "hatch" that affords great views when open and good security when closed.

The interior is functional rather than luxurious, with a fixed bed in the rear, a two burner gas hob, 110 litre fridge, shower and toilet (and a spice rack).

I have fitted Man with two 200 watt solar panels, a Honda generator and a Webasto DualTop diesel heating system (instead of the original Truma gas system). For more information on designing and equipping this type of vehicle see here

So far I have taken it on a trip to Iceland in 2009, a much longer trip to Australia in 2010 and a two year trip to Canada & Alaska in 2012/13. On all these trips Man has performed well.

I can recommend both the EX480 and the company Bimobil.

My previous campervan was a self converted Mercedes Unimog U1300L truck. Before that I owned a Murvi Morello.
